David Westman was appointed in 2017 as TMC’s Great Lakes Practice Leader. In this capacity, he is responsible for business development, including raising awareness of TMC and the benefits of external interim staff executives, in the Great Lakes region of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin. He also remains available to serve as an interim executive for TMC throughout the country.
Recently, David served as the Interim CEO for the Water Quality Association and the American Association of Diabetes Educators, He also served for nine years as the CEO of two international professional societies, the Emergency Nurses Association and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons.
In addition to his TMC roles, David is the Chief Executive Officer of Westman & Associates Consulting, LLC, a firm focused on serving associations, foundations, certification entities, social service organizations, and other non-profit entities. Specific areas of focus include governance enhancement, strategic planning, executive coaching, and human resource program development.
Previously, David served for 15 years in leadership capacities at two large national accounting and consulting firms – KPMG and McGladrey. At McGladrey, David led the Chicago-land’s Strategy & Human Capital Consulting practice and served as Performance & Compensation Consulting Practice Champion for the firm. At KPMG, David held several positions including Senior Consultant, Manager, and Senior Manager, Performance/Compensation Management.
David received his undergraduate degree from Augustana College (Illinois), where he was a triple major and class valedictorian. He subsequently earned his MBA in Finance and Marketing from the University of Chicago. He is both a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a Certified Association Executive (CAE).
Active with the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE), David served as chair of the Key Professional Association Committee (KPAC), consisting of 40 large association chief staff executives. He is also active with Association Forum of Chicagoland and the Michigan Society of Association Executives – serving in leadership roles for both organizations. In 2013 received the organization’s Inspiring Leader of the Year award.
